Museum history

In 1977, the City Executive Committee of Nakhodka made a decision to open a history museum. The decision was consolidated by the Order of the Department of Culture of the Primorsky Regional Executive Committee No. 2 dated January 23, 1978, Vladivostok "On the opening of branches of the Museum of Local Lore. VK. Arsenyev in the cities of Nakhodka, Partizansk, Dalnerechensk ". Raisa Nurievna Pautova became the first director of the Museum of the History of Nakhodka. The building for the museum was chosen by the head of the culture department of the Nakhodka city executive committee S.I. Arpishkina. It was a 12-apartment residential building at 6 Vladivostokskaya Street.

A room with stove heating, without sewerage and running water, in the basement with a shoemaker's workshop, built in 1949-1950. The choice of the house was not accidental: here, in the "old" center of the city, a single cultural complex was created - next to the Children's Music School, the Priboi children's cinema, the Seamen's Palace of Culture, and two libraries.

Since 1978, the building was simultaneously reconstructed for the opening of the museum and the collection of future exhibits. Since everything that was collected should have been described and saved, the director and the only employee of the museum, R.N. Pautova, were allocated a table and a wardrobe in the passage room, where the management and accounting department of the city park of culture and recreation were located. In the second half of 1978, the administration of the regional museum allocated funds for two staff units: a senior researcher and a museum clerk (caretaker).

The reconstruction of the house was carried out by the Nakhodka Construction Department, under the command of A.S. Slabinsky and foreman T.I. Kulakova. The administration and party leaders of the city also took part in the creation of the museum. All city authorities, heads of enterprises, residents of the city treated with great attention, interest and goodwill to the creation of the museum.

The exposition equipment - showcases, podiums - were produced at two factories: NSRZ (director V. Malakhovsky), and PSRZ (director V. Nebello). The author of the first art project of the museum was G.V. Prikhodko.

In 1979 a small collective of the museum settled in a new building. Along with the solution of issues on the installation of telephones and the organization of security, the first creative team was formed, the main task was determined - the creation of a scientific concept and a thematic-compositional plan in accordance with the artistic project. The authors of the scientific concept and the TEP are senior researcher G.P. Sidorenko (Konogorova) and junior researcher. L.V. Parfenova.

By the end of 1979, beginning of 1980. the museum was equipped with everything necessary and its opening took place on November 4, 1980. The staff of the museum for the opening consisted of 11 people, including 4 creative workers. Employees conducted excursions, gave lectures, which were accompanied by a display of museum collections (lectures were read in vocational schools, in hostels, military units, on the ships of the BAMR, etc.), organized meetings of schoolchildren with interesting people of the city, mounted and exhibited stationary and traveling exhibitions.Within the walls of the museum, mass events were held, such as receptions for the Komsomol and pioneers, and press conferences were held. Almost from the first days the museum has become one of the important cultural centers of the city.

The creative group of the museum, in spite of the small experience of work, provided methodological assistance to museums on a voluntary basis, created at enterprises and educational institutions. In 1983, a zonal meeting of secretaries of party organizations and chairmen of trade union committees was held on the basis of the Museum of the State Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (first secretary V. Romaniuk). Among the branches of the Primorsky Museum of Local Lore. VK. Arsenyev's branch in Nakhodka has always taken the 1st place in all indicators: attendance, the number of excursions, lectures and public events; on the collection and preservation of fund collections. Numerous exhibitions have made a great contribution to the culture of the city.

The museum has met many outstanding guests within its walls. Thus, in August 1981, the IEC was visited by the Norwegian ethnographer, archaeologist, explorer and traveler Thor Heyerdahl. After getting acquainted with the history of the city, he presented the museum with a poster with the image of "Tigris" and an autograph: "I wish the growing city of Nakhodka to become a well-known center of peaceful activity on Earth! Best wishes Thor Heyerdahl. Find. 24.8.1981 ".

In 1991 the status of the museum was changed, it became an independent municipal cultural institution "Museum and Exhibition Center of Nakhodka". From 1990 to 2014 the museum was headed by Galina Panteleimonova Konogorova.

Over the four decades of the museum's existence, the expositions have changed, the forms of work with visitors, new employees came, and a creative team was formed. There are no random people in the museum. They come here either for six months and leave, or for life. IEC - as a phenomenon of social and cultural life, has become a necessary part of the culture of the city, along with a school, a library, and a higher educational institution.
More than 35 thousand residents and guests of the city visit the museum annually, their number for the forty-year work of the institution amounted to more than 1.5 million. Over the years, the Museum and Exhibition Center has organized more than 1000 exhibitions, about 6000 events, more than 30 thousand excursions, published about 300 articles and publications.

The funds of the museum, numbering more than 30 thousand items, are 19 collections that are part of the state museum fund and are open for research. Here you can find unique photographic documents on the history of the city. The subject matter of the collections varies from books, numismatics, documents, metal to fabrics, glass, wood, negatives and music libraries, and of particular interest are items of archeology, the life of settlers, works of decorative and applied art, souvenirs donated by delegations from sister cities.

Museum collections are regularly replenished thanks to archaeological research at the Yekaterinovsky settlement (XIII century), scientific trips around the Primorsky Territory, and work in archives.

The museum has assistants - they are local historians who help the staff to restore unknown pages of the history of Nakhodka.

Research activities (collection, storage and study of museum collections) and work with children (scientific research, local history, creative workshop) always remain the priority areas in the work of the museum.
The results of scientific research are published in the "Regional Studies Bulletin" - a scientific publication of the IEC, including published in the form of monographs, catalogs, scientific reports.

Museum staff pay much attention to project activities. It radically changes the image of the museum: it encourages people to be active and makes it possible to realize their creative ideas, helps to position themselves in the urban community, allows them to create new interactive expositions in the presentation of local history material, to use modern technical means in their work. Thanks to the active participation of the museum in grant competitions, it became possible to create new interactive sites, such as "Paleo Village" (2006), the Museum of Marine Adventures "Two Captains" (2007), "Museum on Rollers" (2010). These projects became winners of the competition organized by the V. Potanin Foundation, supported by a grant from the President of the Russian Federation, the Rosbank program and the UN Children's Fund. Museum employees regularly become winners of competitions for such programs as "Museum Guide" (2012), "Museum Troopers" (2015, 2019), "Changing Museum in a Changing World" (2006, 2007, 2010).

The Museum and Exhibition Center in Nakhodka is not only a building, a place for storing and studying material culture and artistic values, it is a multifunctional cultural, entertainment and scientific and educational complex. New museum sites are increasingly attracting attention not only from the educational institutions of the city.
